Important to note in the middle of that first clip the comment about Trump's favorite president is Andrew Jackson. It is HIGHLY RELEVANT to this discussion, considering his Indian Removal Act. Too much to include in a comment, but you might consider an edit to the text ;-)

Absolutely, are you thinking I should just contextualize it more? I was trying to be as high level as possible in this piece for fear I’d lose people so I didn’t go into very much history.

On second thought, maybe it would merit a separate post (easy enough for me to say!). There’s so much history to include with the removal act. Personally, I would include reference to the Highland Clearance Act, Strategic Hamlets in Vietnam … you get the picture. Another line, of course, is the abduction of citizens of a sovereign nation (where have we heard that before?). I might just pass it all by, but what I fear is what The Orange Man may be leading up to once he gets distracted from the Greenland disaster.

Yes I think that definitely could be a second post. There is so much history that so many of us don’t really understand! And I think it is important to show the through line as this is a continuation of genocide because the people being abducted are not hispanic and latino so much as they are indigenous peoples’.

Kristi Noem and the entire regime absolutely intends to attack Native Sovereignty. That has always been a significant agenda going back decades leading up to this point. They have stated very openly they intend to "finish the job".

Our Indigenous communities are the only ones with any real “claim,” to this land, although I do not believe they see it as a claim, so much as a relationship. Which is the only way out of this mess imho. We all need to get behind them and be willing to fight for their right to steward this land. May this white supremacist settler-colony be only a blip on the millennias-long record.

There has been some very important progress on that front in many places and we absolutely have to support the continuation of that. It is essential.

Excellent post, Alexandra. You may also want to consider adding Rebecca Nagle‘s Substack to your list.

It's also important to understand that tribes are not ethnic designations they are political organizations. There is a podcast, This Land (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/this-land/id1464954218), season 1, which really hones this point.
